Vidal is possibly the best of the white French – American hybrid grape varieties, a crossing of Ugni blanc and Seibel 4986. Excellent winemaking and viticulture properties, this thick skinned grape variety is very cold tolerant and is late ripening making it extremely suitable to Canadian climate, and one of the most popular varieties to use for icewine production. A range of wine styles can be produced with this grape dry to sweet table wines, dessert and icewines. Vidal tends to display aromas and flavours of peach, apricot, honey, and soft floral notes.
Geisenheim originating at The Geisenheim Institute in Germany. We grow two different clones at Waupoos; 322 is a crossing of Seibel 7053 and Riesling, and 318 is a crossing of Riesling and Chancellor. Typically the Geisenheim variety has an aromatic profile of mineral, grapefruit, peach and hints of herbs a light and lively variety that produces dry to sweet style table wines.
A really beautiful tribute wine to honor the late founder of Waupoos Estates Winery. The first to take a dream and make it a reality for Prince Edward County, planting the first grapevines in the area, and later opening The First Winery in The County. Ed later assisted with gaining Designated Viticultural Area status for Prince Edward County. There two varities were Ed’s favourites and some of the oldest vines on the Estate.
A True Pioneer of Prince Edward County’s Wine Industry.
