DeChaunac is a Seibel crossing of unknown parentage, the grape was named to honor the man who brought it to Canada from France. Once widely planted in North America due to its cold-hardiness and high yield, the susceptibility to vine viruses has resulted in its loss of favor. This little-known variety is easy-drinking, with cherry, raspberry, and a slight gaminess. This variety works in many different styles and again is a high yielding variety so that plays in our favour. It is not a common or widely planted variety and is quite unique to our vineyard.

De Chaunac is always a fun variety to work with. It is very high yielding and again unique to our vineyard as it is not widely planted. It has the capability of producing a wide range of wine styles; if you are unfamiliar with the variety I describe it often as being in between a Merlot and Pinot Noir typical to have lots of red fruit, soften tannin and more to the pinot side its lighter in style with some pepperiness or spice and often a higher acidity. The 2017 has a great profile to it and sits bone dry at 3.5g/L residual sugar
